The Journal of Exercise Biochemistry and Metabolic Health aims to publish high-quality, original, and ethically conducted research that advances scientific understanding of the biochemical, molecular, physiological, and metabolic effects of physical activity, exercise, training, and sedentary behavior.
The journal is particularly interested in research that investigates biological mechanisms, metabolic pathways, physiological adaptations, and health outcomes associated with exercise and physical activity across the lifespan and in diverse populations. Priority is given to studies with robust methodology, adequate statistical analysis, transparent reporting, and meaningful theoretical, practical, clinical, or public-health relevance.
The journal welcomes basic, translational, clinical, and applied research involving humans and, where scientifically justified, relevant experimental models. Studies may address acute responses to exercise, long-term adaptations to training, exercise-based prevention and management of disease, and interactions between physical activity, nutrition, metabolism, and health.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Exercise biochemistry
- Molecular exercise physiology
- Exercise metabolism and metabolic regulation
- Acute biochemical and physiological responses to exercise
- Chronic adaptations to exercise training
- Skeletal muscle biology, function, hypertrophy, atrophy, and metabolism
- Mitochondrial function, mitochondrial biogenesis, and bioenergetics
- Exercise-induced cellular signaling pathways
- Endocrine responses and hormonal adaptations to exercise
- Inflammation, cytokines, immune function, and exercise immunology
- Oxidative stress, antioxidant defense, and redox signaling
- Exercise, obesity, overweight, and body-composition regulation
- Energy balance, energy expenditure, appetite regulation, and weight management
- Exercise and insulin sensitivity
- Exercise interventions for prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome
- Exercise and cardiometabolic health
- Exercise in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease

- Exercise during different stages of the female reproductive lifespan
- Sports nutrition and nutrient–exercise interactions
- Dietary supplementation, ergogenic aids, and exercise performance
- Hydration, recovery, and exercise-related metabolic responses
- Exercise performance, training load, overtraining, and recovery
- Exercise physiology in athletes and physically active populations
- Physical activity, sedentary behavior, and lifestyle-related health outcomes

- Digital health, wearable technologies, and objective assessment of physical activity or physiological responses
- Methodological and analytical advances relevant to exercise biochemistry, metabolism, and health
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses addressing relevant questions in exercise biochemistry, physiology, metabolism, and health
The journal encourages studies that include clearly defined research questions, appropriate experimental or observational designs, valid and reliable measurement methods, sufficient statistical rigor, and interpretation that is supported by the data.
Article Types
The Journal of Exercise Biochemistry and Metabolic Health considers the following categories of manuscripts:
- Original Research Articles
- Systematic Reviews
- Meta-Analyses
- Narrative Reviews
- Short Communications
- Methodological Articles
- Editorials
- Commentaries
- Letters to the Editor
All submitted manuscripts must be original, must not have been published previously in whole or in substantial part, and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Out of Scope
The journal does not generally consider manuscripts that:
- Lack a clear connection to exercise, physical activity, biochemistry, metabolism, physiology, or health;
- Are descriptive reports without a meaningful scientific question, appropriate analysis, or contribution to existing knowledge;
- Focus exclusively on sports coaching, sport management, sport sociology, or educational practice without biochemical, physiological, metabolic, or health-related relevance;
- Present commercial or promotional claims regarding supplements, devices, exercise programs, or health products without rigorous scientific evidence;
- Do not meet applicable ethical requirements for research involving human participants, animals, biological samples, or personal data;
- Have substantial methodological limitations that prevent reliable interpretation of findings.
The Journal of Exercise Biochemistry and Metabolic Health welcomes submissions from researchers worldwide and supports the publication of research that contributes to a more rigorous, inclusive, and evidence-based understanding of exercise, metabolism, and human health.
